Jean Chrysostome. Édition et histoire des textes

Un séminaire consacré à divers aspects de l’édition et de l’histoire des textes attribués à Jean Chrysostome se tient un mercredi par mois de 14h à 16h aux Sources Chrétiennes à Lyon et en visioconférence.

Programme

• Mercredi 16 octobre – Sergey Kim (FTSR, IRSB, Université de Lausanne), L’original grec retrouvé de l’homélie Sur les rameaux de Sévérien de Gabala (lien visioconférence)
  Il s’agira d’une communication sur la redécouverte récente de l’original grec d’une homélie que Sergey Kim s’apprête à faire paraître en arménien et en géorgien dans le prochain volume du CCSG (Corpus Christianorum, Series Graeca), chez Brepols (identification et description du manuscrit grec, comparaison initiale du grec avec les traductions arménienne et géorgienne anciennes).

• Mercredi 13 novembre – Pierre Augustin (IRHT), Le sort des âmes après la mort selon Jean Chrysostome : une critique de la nécromancie et de la métempsycose (De Lazaro concio II ; In Matthaeum homilia XXVIII)

• Mercredi 4 décembre – Dragoljub Garić (KU Leuven), To humankind’s whole nature: Reassessing the Notion of Martyrdom in John Chrysostom

• Mercredi 15 janvier – Jonathan Stutz (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin) présentera un exposé sur Preaching in a city in lockdown. John Chrysostom’s homily series On the statues
  The presentation will examine the series of homilies delivered by John Chrysostom in 387 CE during Lent, in the aftermath of the Riot of the Statues in Antioch. Addressing the harrowing events witnessed by the Antiochenes and calling for repentance and moral reform, these homilies offer valuable insights into late antique homiletic practices. Building on the premise that emotions were a central element of late antique rhetorical tradition, the presentation will explore the interplay between John’s interpretation of the events and the emotions he aimed to evoke among his listeners, with fear occupying a particularly prominent role. In doing so, Chrysostom not only directed his audience’s attention to divine judgment but also outlined new models of virtue for them to emulate.

  L'intervenante suggère de lire ce document aux p. 45-58 (sur les critères d'authenticité, avec une attention particulière aux p. 51-58 sur CPG 4456), ainsi que l'homélie elle-même (p. 666-697).

• Mercredi 16 avril – Peter Montoro (Tyndale House, Cambridge), Tools, Tricks, and Techniques: Managing the Manuscripts of Chrysostom’s Homilies on Romans
  The manuscript tradition of Chrysostom’s works is enormous and at times, almost overwhelming. Good tools are essential for continued progress. This paper will provide an overview of the tools, tricks, and techniques that were found useful in managing the manuscript tradition of the Homilies on Romans. In particular, it will survey methods for organizing and manipulating images; creating a base text; indexing, transcribing and collating manuscripts, and analyzing variants for stemmatic information.
